Easter Bunny

Happy Easter one and all.

Hope the Easter Bunny was good to you. My house actually smells of chocolate, there's so much of it around!!! How I'm supposed to keep to the food pyramid I don't know! I told Meg this morning that she had to eat 4 chocolate, 3 chocolate and 2 chocolate today if she wanted to get her treat! Got to keep with the numbers!!!

Today I am grateful for the beginning of the beginning.

Clocks have sprung forward, so we have the beginning of lighter evenings. The weather was marginally warmer (well, less freezing!) today, so that, hopefully, signals the beginning of Spring proper. Of course, Easter means the beginning of the Christian year.

And tomorrow will be the beginning of a new diet!!!!! Well, it might take me a day or two to rid the house of chocolate, if we are not to all be violently sick!!!

Gratefully yours.

Heaven on a plate

I am wishing that the menopause would hurry up and become the meno-stop!!!

Thought I was finally finished with this whole curse business, but it would seem not!

So, today I am grateful that it is Patrice's birthday (one of the girls at work!).

We bought her a chocolate cake with candles for her to blow out and then scoffed half her cake! I would have killed or at least seriously maimed her if she hadn't offered it round! And I've not had any chocolate in ages, but was absolutely craving it today....mind you, that's maybe why I was craving it!! It was a delicious, soft, light really chocolaty cake, with lovely fudgy stuff on top....just what the pharmacist ordered!! Who needs a doctor??

Now, all I need is a heat patch for my back and a hot water bottle for my tummy and I'm all set!! Roll on post-menopausal hot flushes!!!

Gratefully yours.

City life

Today I am grateful that I live in a city....easy to have a night out and get a taxi home!!!

Just back from a Christmas night out (yes...really!!!).

Couldn't all get together in December, so now we have! Had a lovely meal, a few drinks and lots of laughs.

And, like I said, a quick taxi ride home.

I often wish that I lived in the country, or, more precisely, in a small village. But then I think about all the advantages of city life, especially living in a quiet suburb, as I do, and I realise that where I am is exactly where I should be. Everything for a reason!!!

Day of rest

Well, that's my pampering out of the way for another while!

Spent the morning being massaged (heaven), facialed (lovely) and coiffed (as in had my hair washed and blow-dried!!). Then had a lunch with K before picking up the kids.

Just had to iron in the afternoon!! Would have felt too guilty to watch K iron his own shirts after doing nothing but look after myself all morning!!!

Today I am grateful for a blissful morning...batteries fully re-charged now!

The hive

I'm slowly but surely getting back into my early morning walks. Thank goodness for the longer days!!!

This morning was the best of the last few. Dry and not very windy...but boy, was it cold!!! Still, it didn't stop the early morning risers...the birds were like busy little bees, collecting twigs and dry leaves for their nests. I guess it's nearly egg time!!!

Along my usual walking route there are two new building sites. One is an existing house that is being renovated and added to and decorated to within an inch of its life. The other looks like a plot of garden that has been sold of and has now been cleared, ready for a new house. There's always something going on around here!!!

Down by the river the horse-chestnuts are pushing forth buds and new growth to beat the band. The branches will be weighed down with leaves and flowers before we know it!

Today I am grateful for the hive of activity that is Spring. Always something new to look at!

Good motivation to keep walking!!!

Holiday time

Holiday time is here again!

Oh, how I love no school!!!!! No homework, no after school activities to drive to. I even got the kids to do a bit of tidying in their rooms today, and it's only the first day!!!

They are going to a kids camp in K's hotel every morning this week, which should keep them entertained...kids gym, swimming, games, that kind of stuff. They certainly enjoyed it today. I'm hoping it will help use up all that annoying energy stuff so they'll be happy to do something quiet in the afternoons!

So what, I hear you ask, am I going to do with myself on the mornings I'm not at work??? Relaxation, pampering and costa all spring energetically to mind!!! Housework...who said housework??? Wash your mouth out with soap and water this instant! Well, okay...I suppose I'll have to do some, but maybe I'll just wait till the afternoons and then bribe the kids to help!!!

Today I am thankful for school holidays.

I promise I will not waste them. I will do my utmost to make every moment count, even if it means ironing in front of a good film, or cleaning the loo while singing Abba hits at the top of my voice!!

Bring it on!!!

Gratefully yours.

The gift of life

Welcome to my new grephew (grand-nephew!!).

One of my two gorgeous pregnant nieces gave birth yesterday to a tiny baby boy, who, I am told, is a dead ringer for his dad!

He was about two and a half weeks early, showing most definitely that he is born to party! He spent the weekend in Badaguish listening to all the goings on and decided that he wanted in on the act!

We are so pleased for the new Mum and Dad. They will, I know, make wonderful parents.

Today I am grateful for the safe arrival of the latest member of our clan. May he know love, laughter and peace in his life.

Gratefully yours.

An oasis of calm

That was work today...an oasis of calm!

We are looking after the medicines for a local nursing home, and it's a lot of work. It is time consuming, so the dispensary is not as neat and ordered as I would like most of the time. (I did tell you about my work/home split personality, didn't I?)

Anyway, it's the end of the month, so all the nursing home work was done when I went into work this morning. I had a whole day to tidy, re-organise, check dates, and all the other day-to-day things that go on the back burner foe the rest of the month. Bliss!!!

It also helps to have a lovely colleague to chat to!

Today I am grateful for the time to tidy!!! (Yes, you did read that correctly!!!)

Don't worry...I stopped short of actually dusting anything!!!

Gale force

Today I am grateful that the house, and, more importantly, the new shed, are still standing after the last 24 hours of wind!!!

I think I would rather have snow, rain or a heat wave than wind...and I don't mean the too many beans type wind!!!

You can wrap up for the cold. You can wrap up for the rain. You can unwrap for the sun...but there's nothing you can do when it starts blowing a gale! A true force of nature!!

Thankfully, all seems to be calm out there now, and the sky is full of stars. I can sleep easy tonight!

Inspired

I was inspired today by a friend and work colleague.

I don't want to go into details, but suffice it to say she amazed me with her calm and caring approach to a difficult situation. She showed me the meaning of courage...being afraid but doing it anyway! She showed me  about compassion, assertiveness and strength of character.

Don't get me wrong...she aint no saint, but I was very impressed today!

Today I am thankful that I have people like her in my life.

The pyramids

I decided to draw up a food pyramid in the hopes of improving the family's eating habits.

I'm sure you've all seen them...bottom heavy with carbs and veggies moving up to an infinitesimally small fine piece at the top.

The kids have both, at one time or another, done it at school and had great fun drawing it...but that's as far as it ever went!

So, now we are trying to eat more of what we should be eating, and less of the stuff that tastes divine, but is not quite so good for us! I intend doing a wee bit of research into individualising it for each of us and see if I can keep us all on the straight and narrow!!

Thomas and Megan were extremely good today, counting up everything they ate....no treat allowed until all other groups have been eaten in the right quantities! Long may it last!!! It would be great if we could make it a habit, and carry on with it even after the novelty of the chart has worn off!!

Today I am grateful for new endeavours.

Now I must count up all my nibblings and see if I qualify for a wee sneaky treat!!!

Gratefully yours.

Walking the walk

I have two walks to be grateful for today!

My weekend away in the beautiful Scottish wilderness inspired me to re-start my winter-defunked early morning walks. So, I set my alarm for 6.15 this morning, and I went out for a lovely, fresh morning walk. It was most enjoyable! I could almost feel my observational skills reawakening, and was generally just delighted with myself.

I then walked into work along the river, and was thrilled to see Mr Heron down on the rocks, half hidden among the dozen or so swans. I just love the herons!

So, all in all, I'm very pleased with myself today, and have enjoyed my walks enough to ensure that I get up when the alarm goes off tomorrow morning! Apart from anything else, it really sets me up for the day, that wee bit of fresh air and excercise...and mindfulness!

Gratefully yours.

Badaguish

Where to start???

Of course I have not been blogging for the last few days....no wi-fi up in the Scottish mountains!!

What I have been doing, however, is storing up memories to feast on for the next few decades!!

Today I am grateful to all my wonderful family, for making such a huge effort to be with Mum, for her 21st (again) birthday.

I am also grateful to have spent the weekend in the most beautiful place. The scenery took my breath away and left me in awe. The hugeness of the mountains, rather than making me feel small, made me feel that I was a part of something absolutely amazingly wonderful....and I don't just mean my absolutely amazingly wonderful family!!!

It was cold and snowy, but the warmth of the family gathering kept us all toasty....yes, I guess the brandy and beer helped too, but I prefer to attribute the gooey, warm feeling inside my insides to the love of my family for each other! I mean, it was the back end of nowhere - the most beautiful back end I think I've ever seen, mind you - but everybody, including two very pregnant nieces and a sick, poorly nephew, made the effort to come. If that's not pure love, I don't know what is!

And for added, extra, on top of all that wonderfulness....I got to celebrate my birthday with everyone I love too!! Result!

I took nearly 150 photos over the weekend, but I have distilled the essence of the weekend, for me, without putting any people photos up, down to these three pictures.

Hope they make you smile too.

Pure Heaven!

Got to love the hair-do!!

The movable pooch-skin rug!!!

Gratefully yours.

Good vibrations

We got that good ol' holiday vibe today!!

The kids are getting the day off school tomorrow, which meant no homework today!! So it really felt as if our holiday weekend started today.

All getting very excited about going to Scotland. Looking forward very much to seeing everybody and celebrating Mam's big birthday. (Don't worry....I won't say which big birthday!!)

So today I am grateful for the extra early start to our weekend.

It's given us a chance to chillax in readiness for the raucous all-night partying ahead!!!

Dinner date

I had lunch with K today!

Wasn't planned, but I got a text just as I was leaving work, asking if I was coming in to the hotel for lunch. Just a bowl of soup and a cup of coffee and a wee chat. Lovely.

Today I am grateful that I am working half days in Adare on a fairly regular basis, allowing for lovely, spur of the moment dinner dates with my darling hubby.

Memries (like in the song!)

....light the corners of my mind!

Wasn't sure what to be grateful for today, so after getting the computer set up ready, I went off upstairs to dry my hair, to give myself time to think.

20 minutes later I came back down with no more of a clue than when I went up! But, the computer had gone to screensaver, which, in my case, is a random slideshow of all my photos.

It's fab! I really have taken some stunning photos in my time!!! Though I say so myself!!! It's also lovely to see holiday snaps from all sorts of times and places, all with lovely, happy memories attached!

So, today I am grateful for my camera.

I've not used it much of late, but I intend to get back into it. Maybe try and put a few more up on my blog for a bit of added interest! A good incentive to get out there snapping! No more excuse about how awkward it is to upload them etc etc.

It's time to get artistic!!!

'sno fun

No snowmen for us then!!!

We had a few flurries today. Almost a blizzard at one stage, but as soon as the flakes hit the ground they just disappeared!

I am not wishing for us to be snow-bound though! I like being able to get on with things as normal! I know the kids would love lots of "Cruden Bay snow", to have snowball fights and build snowmen, but kids never need to worry about the logistics of getting to and from work and such like.

But I am grateful that I at least got to see a snow-covered peak this evening on my way to choir!

I would hesitate to call it a mountain....but it was snow covered, and it was a peak! It just made me think of home, and gave me a big smile!

Now that's the best way to experience snow....from a distance!!

Happy Mother's Day

Today I am grateful for my wonderful mum.

I could not have chosen a better mum if I had tried. She has always been there for me, and continues to be there even though I'm very nearly old! She has shaped me, and guided me and made me into the woman I am today.

I am grateful also for the gift of being a mother myself.

All I can say really is that I hope that when my kids grow up, they feel for me the way I feel for my Mam now. Then I will know I did a good job.

Love you Mam. xxx

Organisation

I love it when a plan comes together.

The big boss, the smaller boss and I had a wee chat last week about how to be more efficient in getting all the meds ready for the nursing home, and generally keeping the shop running at the same time! Up till now it has all really been falling on the shoulders of the smaller boss, and when she was out sick a couple of weeks ago we nearly came unstuck!

So, it was lovely to go into work today and have everything organised and working like clockwork! It makes for a much less stressful day when you can feel that you are in control of the work, and not the other way round!

I'm not a control freak!! I just like to be in control!!!!!

So, today I am grateful for wee chats. They can lead to huge improvements!

Jam and cream

There is a cafe in Adare that serves the most delicious berry scones! They serve them with jam and cream, and they are to die for.

Unfortunately I have been working rather a lot in Adare of late. The girls there are a very bad influence! How I'm supposed to watch my figure when they keep offering to get scones, I just don't know! I have told them that my will power is not quite what it could be, and that I can resist anything....except temptation!

Sometimes you've just got to give in and be grateful!!!

Today I am grateful for The Good Room scones!!! And giving in to temptation!

I hope all the wonderful women in my life had a good day, and gave in, just a little, to temptation themselves today! Sure, don't we all deserve it today???

Gratefully yours.

My new shed

We got a new shed!

We went out on Saturday and ordered it. K then demolished our old one, leaving it in a huge pile, worthy of Guy Fawlkes, on my lawn. My sitootrie became the temporary home for golf clubs, lawn mowers and bikes.

So, today I am grateful for speedy and efficient shed-heads!

When I left for work this morning the two said shed-heads had arrived bearing gifts of bits of shed on the back of their van. When I returned home at lunch time my lawn was bonfire-free and I have a lovely new (if a little bright it the orange department!) shed right where the old one used to stand! Result!

And on an extra happy note...Gorgeous is delighted with her new hidey-place! She can squeeze underneath this shed, as well as round the back of it, so if I was a magpie I'd watch out this spring!!!

Singing sensation

Today I am grateful, and rather excited, to be able to watch, and hear my choir, from the outside, as it were!

We have posted on Youtube, and I am delighted to be able to hear what we sound like to other people!! It's really quite special...even if I am hidden completely in the second row! But even if no-one else can see me, I know I was there, singing me wee heart out.

I always knew I'd be on telly one day!!!

Facelift

Today I am eternally grateful to the Council.

Walking home from work today, as I neared the spot that is forever stuck in my memory...the place I tripped and gave myself two shiners...I saw the men from the council. They were re-surfacing the pavement!!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I can now walk home from work without palpitations and cold sweats.

See how little it takes to make me happy!!

Gratefully yours.

Jack of all trade

Lest anyone should think that I was not grateful for anything yesterday, let me assure you that I was....I just plain forgot to write my blog!!

So, today I am grateful that I remembered to write my blog!!!

But seriously...

Today I am actually grateful for my dining room table.

Such a lot happens round that table. Meggie and I make cards on it and bake on it. Kieran spreads out his files from work on it when he's working at the weekend, or lays out his paper to do the crossword. Thomas sits on it (!!!) when he's chatting to me while I'm cooking. The kids do their homework on it. And, of course, we sit round it together (not often enough!) to eat our dinner.

It's an easy habit to fall out of, but I do love it when we all sit down together to eat and chat about our days. It's probably one of the few times in the day when we are all in the same place at the same time!

A most versatile and loved piece of furniture without a doubt....and very clever to be able to do all those things!!

Here come the girls

Yeah! Girls Night!!!

Boys at rugby match, girls at home with crisps and fizzy and a good movie!!

Then, when the boys came home, we disappeared up to bed with our books. Gorgeous came too...well, she is a girl, but she has no book, so she's just doing her yoga instead. Meg and I did contemplate trying the yoga too, but to be honest we just didn't think our legs were up to the contortions!!

Today I am very thankful that I'm not the only girl in the house. Girls nights just wouldn't be the same.

Afternoon delight

I really like Friday afternoons.

No homework!

I think the kids quite enjoy it too!

I sat and read my book this afternoon. It's nice to just get lost in the pages. Another place and time. And, as it was a lovely (if rather cold) day, the kids were able to get outside and play for a while.

And, of course, a less stressful afternoon leads to a more relaxed evening.

All in all, I think I am thankful for no homework days!!

And, guess what??? No work till Tuesday! I get a long weekend!

What a lucky bunny! Happy Spring folks!

Gratefully yours.
