I've just been watching a really good programme on BBC1, called Turn back time - The family.
It was really good, and really made me stop and think about my family.
We really do take so much for granted these days, don't we? And, funnily enough, it was the upper class Edwardian family who seemed to suffer most as far as family was concerned. And why??? Because they were not allowed to interact together, the way we do now. The kids were herded up into the nursery, and the mum and big sister had to sit in the drawing room all day, reading and sewing...and missing the kids! Dad was off on his own doing whatever upper class men did, and hating every minute of it because he was lonely!!
Obviously the lower class family had a very tough time, lots of very hard manual work, but the were working as a team. They were still a family, and I think at the end of the day, they all realised the importance of that bond.
Today I am very, very grateful for my family, both the one I grew up in, and the one I am nurturing.
We really do have it good these days, and I am going to try much harder not to take that for granted anymore.
So here's to family. I love you all.
Gratefully yours.
