The happiest days of our lives

I never thought I would hear myself say this but....today I am grateful for the time I spend with the kids, doing homework!!!

I hate homework with a passion...even more so than the kids do. But after four and a half years of trying to sit the kids down together to quietly do their homework, and failing miserably, I seem to have reached a place of peace and love on the homework front.

The secret....acceptance! I have finally accepted that:
1) it's easier on a one to one basis. Trying to get it done quickly by sitting them down together is totally counter-productive.
2) the afternoons are not the time to try to do anything other than homework...just not gonna happen!

This week I have enjoyed some time alone with both kids. There has been peace and quiet. The homework is done well and without fuss and I have not had to keep telling either one of them that it's time to get started. And, you know what...I think I may be learning something at the same time!!!

Don't know if the kids are enjoying the homework any better, but I certainly am! Okay, the dinner has been a wee bit later than usual, but it's still on the table before we all starve! It's all about priorities!

Gratefully yours.
xx
