It was a miserable start to the day: dark, damp and dismal. But then I opened the back door to let the cat out and the birds were singing! It really cheered me up and put the day back on a very good and positive footing.
So, today I am grateful that I am able to hear the birds.
In keeping with my new healthy regime, I decided this morning to take a long circuit back to the car after dropping the kids at school, instead of going straight back in two minutes flat. As I said before, although we live in a suburb, surrounded by other houses, there are also a lot of mature trees in gardens along the way. These trees are home to a thriving community of birds, from wee sparrows to hulking great herons! So the sound of birdsong is all around, and is so sweet....well, apart from the hulking great herons, who sound like a shovel scraping the pavement, according to Meggie!!
I just love the fact that even in the midst of this man-made forrest of houses and roads, nature will not be disuaded from showing her true and most beautiful colours.
Gratefully yours.
xx
