Operatic antics

There has always been music in my life. I come from a family of singers, from my mam and sisters to my nieces and nephews, and I'm sure, in a few years time, my great-nephews and nieces!

One of my most treasured memories of growing up was hearing my mam singing. Vilia, from The Merry Widow, was my favourite, and it still makes me smile just to think about it. I would love to think that one day my voice would be strong enough to do it justice!

So, today I am extremely grateful for my once weekly singing lessons.

I am learning Italian operatic arias at the moment, and though I doubt if I will ever have the nerve to sing any of my wonderful songs in front of real live people (other than my terrific teacher, of course), it fills me with joy just to sing them. It also has a great side-effect....all the deep abdominal breathing gives me quite an energy high! I'm not sure if it's because I'm depriving my brain of the much needed oxygen, or if I'm just clearing out my lungs of stale air and hyper-ventilating!! Whatever the reason, I like it!!!

I would highly recommend that everyone should do something that gives them joy, at least once a week!!!

Gratefully yours.
xx

  1. I really want to hear you sing, and I'm quite prepared to sit with my back to you, or just outside the door if it helps!
