Lessons in life

I took an unexpected detour this morning...and it got me thinking.

I had to go off the motorway on the way to work this morning, to get petrol. Now, it wasn't far off the motorway, and I knew that there was a way back to it at the other end of the village. However....I missed the turn-off , and ended up taking the old road to my destination, which was actually lovely! The road was quiet, and there were some lovely houses to look at on the way! It did take me about 5 minutes longer to get to work, but I do believe it was worth it!

It got me thinking about life in general. It is too easy, sometimes, to get all stressed out about things not working out the way you planned it. But my little detour today made me realise that even if you do go off course a little, if things don't go quite as you had hoped, you will still arrive at your destination in the end. So why worry? Why not just enjoy the detour! By all means, make plans....but do it in pencil! (I cannot claim credit for that saying, but I do feel that it is so true!)

Today I am grateful that I was able to enjoy the detour....and may have learnt a valuable lesson in the process!

Gratefully yours.
xx

  1. Good one! We can never make life go exactly as we want it (or sometimes even vaguely how we want it!) The practice is in dealing with things as they actually are.
