The miracle of...pancakes

Yes, today has been Shrove Tuesday, or, as it is affectionately known, Pancake Tuesday!

And today I was lucky enough to be a witness to yet another of life's little miracles.

I was up and showered at the usual time...well, usual when I can drag myself out of bed without waiting till the last minute! I was making my cup of tea when the thought struck me that I would probably have time to make a few pancakes before school (along with the usual lunches and breakfasts, of course, being the wonderful, multi-tasking woman that I am!!).

K had woken the kids and come down stairs by the time I had the first batch in the pan, so he decided to go back up to the kids and tell them the good news. Now, to put the miracle into perspective for you, the scene usually plays out like so: Dad wakes kids. Kids groan and pull covers over heads. Dad shouts at kids to get up. Kids ignore Dad. Mum shouts at kids and threatens reprisals. Kids finally arrive downstairs moaning and whingeing about the fact that mornings are stupid and why can't school start at lunch-time.

Today the two nearly knocked Dad down in their hurry to get down stairs to see if he had told the truth, and to hug the life out of me for being the best mum ever. And after devouring the pancakes, smothered in chocolate spread and bananas, they even got dressed and ready for school without a fuss!!!

So, today, I am grateful that it was Pancake Tuesday, and wish that there were more pancake days in the year!!! I may just have to invent them!

Gratefully yours.
xx

  1. Can never have too many (though on my gluten free regime, I'm eating some rather weird ones these days - quinoa pancakes anyone? No me neither!)
